Profile
Grahame 'Bonny' Gibson was a social worker and counselor working with the homeless and disadvantaged in the inner city of Adelaide, SA. Currently he is a Project Officer with the National Suicide Prevention Strategy for the Murray Mallee Region of South Australia. In addition to working with disadvantaged men and women in Adelaide he has also been extensively involved with community based men's support groups in the Mount Barker, Adelaide and country districts of South Australia, and is well respected for his tireless efforts in working with men and boys health and well being issues.

In 1999 he facilitated the 8th Australian New Zealand Men's Leadership Gathering, ANZMLG, held at Normanville South Australia where this program was endorsed.

Initial development of this facilitatior's resource kit has evolved for eleven years of 'grass roots' based activities of working with men and boys. Informally he has also trained other men to become facilitator/group leaders of men's support groups, and has lectured widely in the community sector on these issues.

It is generally recognised amongst professional and non-professional community workers that there are very few community development focused programs that present a practical 'grass roots' based opportunity for men and boys to explore the issues evolving around masculinity.

He as instrumental in developing the first men's support group at the Mobilong Correctional Centre in South Australia. Bonny is a founding member of the Longriders Christian Motor Cycle club in Adelaide, and recognises spirituality as an essential part of men's health and well being.

Along with his wife Michelle and sons Aaron and Zane, he lives in the Adelaide hills district of SA, and thoroughly enjoys riding his Harley Davidson motor bike whenever the opportunity arises.

Based on a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding men and boys social, physical, emotional and spiritual health and well being in the wider community context it is envisaged that the author of this program will make a recognised contribution to addressing these issues nationally, in Australia, and also internationally in the future.
