Introduction

Being a man now days is not an easy thing to do. As men, whether we like it or not we are often challenged to engage in new ways in our lives. Men are being asked to engage in new ways of living, new ways of carrying out family and community roles and often we are not sure what is expected of us as father, sons, partners or even as friends. For many men this may be the first time in our lives that we have been directly challenged in this way and not all men have been able to respond to this challenge in a positive way or cope with these expectations very well. The Men Engaging Neways facilitator's resource kit is a program of 21 sessions that creates the opportunity for men to come together and discuss various men's and boys health and well being issues that are effecting their lives today. Topics covered range from broader issues such as Definitions of Manhood and Riding the Storm to personal development type issues such as Emotions, Responsibilities, Expectations, Communication Filters and Intimacy. The Men Engaging Neways facilitator's resource kit has been designed and developed for both the professional and non-professional community worker or potential men's support group leader. The program has been designed to be used by community volunteers, social workers, health professionals, teachers, adult educators, church workers and others. People from the wider community are also highly encouraged to utilise this resource kit regardless of age, cultural background formal and informal skills training, as everyone has the potential to contribute invaluable life experiences towards this 'grass roots' based activity resource. This is a community development focused program that presents a practical hands on opportunity for men and boys to explore the issues evolving around masculinity and I trust that you find the program challenging, rewarding and fulfilling.
